The Mindfulness Protocol: A 3-Minute Audio Practice

When anxiety rises, our instinct is often to fight it or figure it out. This brief, 3-minute audio practice uses the three gentle lines of the Mindfulness Protocol to help you shift from resistance to warm accommodation.

Practice Note: As you listen, try placing a hand gently over your heart or on your belly. This physical touch, combined with a warm and patient inner tone, helps short-circuit your nervous system’s stress response.

[Soft, ambient tone or a single gentle bell chime]

Welcome to this brief moment of pause. Wherever you are right now, simply allow your body to settle. You don’t need to change anything about this moment. You only need to be present for it.

[Pause 3 seconds]

If you are noticing the tight, gripping sensation of anxiety or worry, I invite you to gently place one or both hands over your heart, or resting on your belly.

[Pause 5 seconds]

Feel the physical warmth of your own hand. Notice the gentle pressure. This simple touch sends a direct signal of safety to your nervous system. Let your breathing be natural.

[Pause 5 seconds]

When anxiety rises, our instinct is to fight it. Today, we will try a different path using the three lines of the Mindfulness Protocol. Repeat these phrases silently to yourself, using the warmest, most compassionate inner tone you can summon—like a dear friend speaking to you.

[Pause 3 seconds]

Bring your awareness to the feeling of apprehension in your body, and silently say:
There is fear.

[Pause 8 seconds]

There is fear. We are just noticing it. We are not judging it, and we are not getting lost in the story behind it. We are simply acknowledging its presence in the room.

[Pause 5 seconds]

Now, keeping your hand on your heart, offer this feeling a sense of warm accommodation. Silently say:
May my fear be well.

[Pause 8 seconds]

May my fear be well. Imagine breathing softness right into the center of the tension. You are not trying to push the fear away; you are holding it gently, as you would a frightened child.

[Pause 5 seconds]

Finally, recognizing that this fear is a protective messenger, offer it a blessing of patience. Silently say:
May my fear be understood.

[Pause 8 seconds]

May my fear be understood. You don’t need to figure it all out right now. Trust that, with time and gentleness, the wisdom beneath this worry will safely reveal itself.

[Pause 5 seconds]

Take one more slow, deep breath in… and let it go.

[Pause 3 seconds]

“The tone of our inner voice determines the safety of our inner world.”

When you are ready, let your hands rest by your side, open your eyes, and carry this warmth with you into your day.

[Gentle bell chime fades out]
